Meditation can have a major impact on your health and well being. If you have decided to give it a try and start your spiritual journey to quiet the mind, we bring you some quick and sure fire ways to get started.

Developing a successful meditation practice is about creating the right atmosphere. It is important to create an ambience that promotes peace within. Make sure you are clothed comfortably in yoga wear and t-shirts that promote consciousness and awakening.

Why Meditate?

A small daily meditation practice helps relieve stress. Start off by practicing mindfulness a few minutes a day, and soon, you will be able to carry it with you through everyday life. In addition to regular meditation, it is also important to change some other aspects of your life to truly savor the after effects of mindfulness. Learn to live simply and be present in every task of the present.

Here’s how you can get started:

Find a comfortable place to sit

Make it a priority to find a quiet location where you will not be disturbed. Contrary to popular belief, sitting perfectly cross legged is not a prerequisite.

The goal is to sit upright while remaining comfortable. Support yourself with blankets, pillows and cushions if required. Lying on your back is never recommended though. Ideally, meditation should be done at the start of the day. However, it can also be carried out at the end of your daily routine, in the evening, as a release valve for all of the day’s tensions and stress.

Do not try to empty your mind

As you continue to relax and concentrate on your thoughts, do not try to stop the thinking process or empty your mind.

Concentrate on your thoughts and with practice, you will be able to clear your mind automatically without making a conscious effort. When you become aware that your attention has drifted away towards distractions, simply return silently to yourself.

Focus on your breath

As you breathe, make a conscious effort to inhale through your nostrils, taking it into your throat and feel it as it goes into your lungs and then belly.

Repeat the process as you exhale. If it helps, count as you breathe. Sit straight and keep your focus at one point in front of you. If you feel that your mind is wandering, let it; just pay conscious attention to it and it will gently come back to the task at hand.

Repeat this process every day for a few minutes and you will definitely get better at it with practice. And if you are looking for high quality comfortable clothing, check out Awaken The Source for awareness t-shirts online.
